Société de Microfinance Guilgal S.A. is a regulated microfinance institution in the Democratic Republic of Congo that evolved from a cooperative to a company limited by shares in 2020 to strengthen governance and attract international lenders. Headquartered in Kinshasa with seven branches, Guilgal serves traders, farmers and youth through group and individual loans, mobilizes sizeable savings, and is pursuing a green microfinance strategy that includes clean-cooking products.

Spark+ financing is supporting portfolio growth with a specific focus on clean cooking. Proceeds will be on-lent to end-borrowers for modern cooking solutions that Guilgal began rolling out in 2022, following early evidence of strong demand, with the program expected to expand access to affordable products for tens of thousands of low-income households.
